Trussell Trust maths, making pan pipes and poetry

Maths about Trussell Trust donations

Maths about Trussell Trust donations 1

This week we applied maths skills to some of our donations to the Trussell Trust.  First we had to complete a table by finding out the weight of the items from the packaging and the cost from the receipt.  Then we used this information to answer questions.

Finally, we took the items to St Martin's church for our harvest festival.

In science, we have been learning about sound.  This week we experimented with making high and low pitched sounds.  A shorter pipe or string makes a higher sound and a longer pipe or string makes a lower sound.  We found it quite tricky to make sounds with our straw pan pipes but most of us were soon making a range of sounds and being able to vary the amplitude (loudness) as well.

This week we marked National Poetry Day on Thursday 4th October.  It gave us the chance to read some poetry, to play with words and to have a go at writing our own poetry.  Here is some of our work.  Three poems are based on 'It's easy for clouds' by Juris Kronbergs.  Gabriel wrote a super poem inspired by 'Magic Cat' by Peter Dixon.
