How does sound travel?

Tuning forks, rice and two drums

In Woodpeckers we used two tuning forks, some rice and two different sized drums to investigate how sound travels.  We established that the tuning forks were making sounds and we know that these sounds travel in waves, making vibrations.  We found that when we touched the tuning fork to the drum skin, the rice would jump because of those vibrations.
