Reflective writing on 'In Flanders' Fields' by John McCrae
At the bottom of the radio station archive for 2014/15, there is a recording of In Flanders' Fields written by the First World War doctor and poet John McCrae. Woodpeckers are learning this poem for performance at our presentation to parents on the afternoon of Friday 16th November. We have also written about what this poem makes us think and how we feel about it.
As part of our focus on the centenary of the Armistice at the end of World War 1, we are making poppies, soldier silhouettes and other display items. For these paper model poppy wreaths we had to cut carefully and work out how to get from a flat piece of paper to a shaped wreath.
Remember, remember the fifth of November
Term started on November 5th so we learned about Guy Fawkes and how he plotted to blow up the King and Parliament. We read the poem 'Remember, remember the fifth of November' and we made paper models of Guy Fawkes.
